Our adventure began on a crisp and refreshing morning of 25th July 2015. As the sun was just starting to rise, we gathered at Bhirkutimandap Gate, eager and ready for our weekly hiking routine with "Hike for Nepal" colleagues. There was an air of excitement as we knew Chandragiri Hill awaited us, the best but hardest and highest hiking destination in and around the Kathmandu Valley.
With everyone present, we set off towards the enchanting Machhegaun Village by bus, our starting point for the hike. The village was like a picture postcard, nestled amidst lush greenery and traditional houses that exuded a charm of their own. As the clock struck 8 AM, we began our ascent from the base point of the Hill.
The trail led us through a maze of wild forests and rolling hills. The serenity of the surroundings enveloped us, and we could not help but feel a sense of meditation and spiritual connection to nature. The landscape was veiled in a soft, cloudy mist that only added to the allure of the journey. A light drizzle started to accompany us, sprinkling drops of joy on our hike. The cool breeze brushed against our faces, carrying with it a sense of adventure and freedom.
Amidst the hike, we took short breaks to rest and rejuvenate. Each stop brought with it a chance to take in the breathtaking vistas that surrounded us. The majesty of the hills and the beauty of the landscape felt almost surreal, like we were walking through a dream. As we continued upward, the sounds of birds filled the air, their melodies blending harmoniously with our own songs, poems, and gazhals, creating an orchestra of nature and human expressions of joy.
We found a cozy spot on a hill to enjoy a hearty breakfast. The combination of the cool breeze, the company of friends, and the delicious meal made it a moment to cherish. Each bite seemed to taste better than the last, adding a touch of magic to the entire experience.
Finally, after an invigorating climb, we reached the top of Chandragiri Hill (top of the Kathmandu Valley). The panoramic view that greeted us was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The Himalayas stood tall and proud in the distance, reminding us of the grandeur of nature. From this historic location, we gazed upon the Kathmandu Valley, feeling the weight of its significance. It was here that the visionary Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha District had once stood, dreaming of a unified Nepal. That is, before the unification of Nepal, when Prithvi Narayan Shah reached the top of the Chandragiri Hills and observed the Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur), he dreamed and planned to conquer the Kathmandu Valley, which was ruled by Malla Kings.
As we explored further, we encountered Kalupade Dada and various forts built by him. The historical aspect of the place added depth to our journey, connecting us to the past while we relished the present.
The entire hike was a tapestry of emotions and experiences. The excitement of being so close to nature, the camaraderie shared with friends, and the overwhelming sense of freedom were beyond words. The hike gave us a chance to escape the grind of our daily lives and embrace the natural world wholeheartedly.
Our hike to Chandragiri Hill was more than just a physical activity; it was a journey of the soul. It breathed new life into our spirits, breaking the chains of modern-day routines and giving us a chance to bask in the purity of nature's embrace. The memories we made on that day will forever be etched in our hearts, reminding us of the beauty and joy that lie in the Nature.
