The memory of our Mission Election Observation in Chitwan district of Nepal remains vivid in my mind. The mission was a by-election observation led by esteemed individuals, including Former Chief Election Commissioner Honorable Surya Prasad Shrestha sir and Former ambassador of Belgium and India, Dr. Durgeshman Singh. The intensity of the mission was palpable, given the significance of the event. Our slogan, "Mission NEOC Observation: All Eyes are on the Election" reflected the gravity of our task.
Chitwan, known for its scorching weather, was already experiencing high temperatures. However, the heat was further intensified by the fervor surrounding the elections. As representatives of the National Election Observation Committee (NEOC), we understood the responsibility placed upon us to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process.
Upon our arrival, we immediately engaged in a series of high-level meetings with key stakeholders, including the chief election officer, chief army officer, chief police officer, chief district officer, and other influential figures. These discussions allowed us to gather crucial insights and establish a comprehensive understanding of the prevailing circumstances.
During our mission, we visited and closely observed over 30 voting booths. In most cases, we witnessed free, fair, and peaceful elections taking place, which was a testament to the democratic process. However, there were isolated incidents where clashes between workers from different political parties forced the temporary suspension of voting in a few booths. This served as a stark reminder of the inherent challenges and tensions that can arise during elections.
As observers, we diligently documented and reported our findings, ensuring the dissemination of accurate information. It was essential for us to provide an unbiased assessment and contribute to the overall credibility and transparency of the electoral process. Through our meticulous observation and reporting, we aimed to uphold the principles of democracy and promote confidence in the electoral system.
Our Mission Election Observation in Chitwan district remains a cherished memory, reminding us of the significance of fair and peaceful elections. The experience of working alongside esteemed individuals and witnessing the dedication of the Nepalese people to democracy left an indelible impression on us. We understood that our efforts played a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and fostering a sense of trust among the citizens. This mission served as a reminder of the importance of vigilant observation and unwavering commitment to democracy in every election.
