In the early morning light of May 16th, 2023, I embarked on a heartwarming journey from Kathmandu Naya Bus Park to Satdobate of Arupokhari (Gorkha), a place where my Mama Ghar awaited me with open arms. As the bus rolled down from Thankot, each twist and turn brought me closer to the enchanting beauty of rural Nepal. The verdant hills and majestic mountains, accompanied by the melodious dohari songs floating in the air, made the experience truly surreal. "Chip chip pani ma leu, maya k ho payena veu, kaha tuppo kaha xeu, sipalu mayale sappi sikaideu" echoed in my ears as I gazed out at the flowing Trishuli River, running gracefully alongside the winding road.
Our journey continued through Malekhu, Kurintar, and Khaireni until we reached Gorkha Bazar, where we paused for a delightful lunch. With renewed energy, we resumed our travel, and as we approached Ghyampesal, the raugh, raw and precarious road stirred a mix of excitement and fear in my heart. However, the anticipation of reuniting with my dear relatives at Mamaghar(Satdobate) overshadowed any worries.
Upon arrival at Mamaghar, the warm embrace of Mama, Maiju, and other relatives enveloped me in happiness. Our conversations flowed endlessly as we shared news, updates and life events, and the presence of the wise 96-year-old Hajurba bestowed valuable blessings upon me. I spent a memorable night there, relishing the taste of delicious cultural dishes that filled the air with a delightful aroma.
The next day, I set out for Dhodeni, the village of my beloved Kaile Sanima. The journey was short, taking only an hour, and Sanima's surprise and joy upon seeing me were palpable. I was delighted by local organic foods. My dear friend Sulav took me to Stul Khola for a refreshing swim, and laughter and joy filled the air as we reconnected after a long time apart.
On the third day, I ventured to Kaule Vanjyang, where my Thuli Fupu resided. The two-hour journey from Dhodeni felt like a labor of love as I was eager to meet her. Upon meeting, Thuli Fupu's tears of happiness mirrored my own, and her delicious meals were a true expression of love and warmth. From there, I continued to Okhle, where my Saili Fupu lived. The joy in Saila Vinaju's eyes upon seeing me was infectious, though I had to wait for Saili Fupu's return from Arughat. The moment we (me and Saili Fupu) finally met, tears of happiness flowed freely, and our hearts rejoiced at the reunion. And then, I again continued to Padere, where my Maile Sanima lived. Maile Sanima got surprised upon seeing me, I deeply greeted her and rested for few hours.
Then, bidding farewell to Maile Sanima, I then made my way to Chautara Manjyang, where my Kanxi Fupu residing. The uphill path was challenging, but the serenade of bird songs, the music of the wind, and the graceful dance of the Salla Trees guided me forward. Upon reaching Kanxi Fupu's house, emotions overwhelmed us both, remembering our old times, we spent the night sharing stories of joy and sorrow, and cherishing every moment together.
As the morning sun greeted the fourth day, it was time to return to Kathmandu. The bus ride was accompanied by the soulful tunes of local Dohari songs, and as I gazed at the flowing river, I realized the essence of life- an endless journey, like the eternal flow of a river, with no clear end. The memories of this cherished meeting with all my relatives will forever hold a special place in my heart, reminding me of the boundless love and warmth that family brings.
