As a student, let me share with you one of the sweetest memories of my life- a day filled with unexpected surprises and heartwarming connections. It was a sunny morning in Nepal, where I had returned to my homeland to conduct research for my thesis. Little did I know that this day would be filled with delightful encounters that would leave an indelible mark on my heart.
As I was immersed in my work, my phone buzzed, signaling a new message. To my astonishment, the sender was none other than my esteemed professor, Prof. Dr. Kwaku, who had taught me Development Economics during my time at a University in Germany. His unexpected text read, "Hello Bhim, let's meet if you have time." My heart skipped a beat, and excitement surged through me like a tidal wave.
Without hesitation, I contacted my friend Amy, a fellow classmate from Ireland, who was also in Nepal for her internship. Eagerly, I shared the incredible news of Prof. Kwaku's presence in Nepal, hearing it, she was also excited to meet him. We could not believe our luck- a chance to reconnect with our beloved professor amidst the beauty of Nepal!
Wanting to make the most of this serendipitous occasion, I swiftly arranged a welcoming meeting at my Office, Janasawal National Daily in Jamal. Inviting both Amy and Prof. Kwaku to join me there, I could not help but smile at the thought of us all coming together in a familiar place, bridging our worlds through shared memories.
The appointed morning arrived, and there, at 11 am on the 21st of May 2023, we reunited. The joy on our faces was undeniable, as we exchanged warm greetings and caught up on each other's lives. We then embarked on a plan for the day- to explore some of Nepal's most iconic tourist destinations.
Our first stop was the Delicious Mo:Mo Ghar Restaurant (Jamal), where we indulged in the famous Nepali Mo:Mo, Lassi, and Bara. Prof. Kwaku and Amy were enchanted by the flavors and textures, and it warmed my heart to see them appreciating the tastes of Nepali culture.
Next, we journeyed to Swyambhu Nath, the enchanting Monkey Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. As a Nepali student, I led them through the temple's spiritual stories, and they were captivated by its history and significance. Taking pictures with the playful monkeys added an element of fun to our sacred exploration.
Patan Darbar Square, another World Heritage site, awaited us next. The vibrant local street market, the intricacies of Newari art and craftsmanship, the soulful melodies of Newari music- everything fascinated Prof. Kwaku and Amy. It was a privilege to share Nepal's rich heritage with them, and I could not help but feel immensely proud.
As the day wound down, we gathered to savor some Nepali local Chiya in the Mo:Mo King Roof Top, a moment of tranquility amidst the bustling city. It was time for Amy to bid us farewell, leaving me alone with my dear professor. We shared heartfelt conversations and laughter as I accompanied him to his destination.
The day had been a tapestry of surprises, laughter, and cultural exploration. Meeting my dear friend Amy and my esteemed Professor Kwaku in the heart of my homeland was a gift beyond words. I treasure this memory, etching it onto the pages of my heart, forever grateful for the magic of unexpected connections that can paint our lives with the sweetest colors.
